Boukie's Grill

212 W 5th Ave
Royal Oak MI 48067
If you love Lebanese and Greek food as much as we do and you're headed out to Royal Oak, make a note of Boukie's Grill. This place has really impressed us. The chicken shawarma pita is the go-to item for lunch, and the kibbeh nayyeh is just out of this world if you have acquired a taste for it like we have! Note that the portions are kind of huge and it doesn't lend itself to being taken home in a carryout container since it's made with raw beef, so you might want to share with a hungry friend! The lemon chicken rice soup and the crushed lentil soup are excellent too, and we think those are the perfect starter before your meal. Boukie's is super good and affordable too!

Penn's Thai Kitchen

Penn's Thai Kitchen is a great part of the Royal Oak landscape, and you can trust us when we say that, because we've tried every Thai restaurant in the city! The spring rolls are the perfect starter to any meal, and we're hooked on all of their broccoli dishes too. The red curry gets major love from us, and the green and yellow are quite stellar too. They've got great pad thai as well, and all their noodle dishes are just so soul-warmingly good! This is comfort food to the highest degree. For dessert you've got to get the homemade coconut ice cream. It's ridiculously good. No matter what you order here, you are sure to get just as hooked as we are on this Royal Oak gem!

Ronin is the greatest place to get sushi in Royal Oak. The menu items that you will find here are unique and truly tantalizing to the taste buds. An an example of their special items, how about that Mountain Dew roll? Enough said. We're major lovers of the jalapeño cream cheese roll, and the crispy rice spicy tuna appetizer is always fun to share with friends. They've got spicy tuna and caviar tacos here too, and even delicious Kobe beef sliders! We suggest coming in for happy hour on the weekends to save some dough and enjoy the best of everything that they have to offer. The sake bombs are lots of fun for those late Saturday nights too. Fun spot!

Commune is a really fun and lively place to enjoy drinks, dancing, and great music. It's got a very "underground" vibe to it (actually located in a basement) with plenty of exposed concrete and a bit of an industrial feel, so if that's your style, you will feel right at home here. The prices are surprisingly affordable here for being in such a prime Royal Oak location. The dance floor isn't as large as we'd like it to be, but it's not too bad. The people who gather here always look good and everybody is friendly too. We love sipping absinthe here and just getting lost in the techno groove. The DJs are great. They're open until 2:00 AM all week and weekend long. Good stuff.

Vinotecca is an absolute pleasure to visit in Royal Oak. They've got a huge array of yummy small plates and regular sized entrees for you to choose from, and we love all the different varieties of cheese that they offer to pair with that spectacular vino! If you book a private party here, you'll be in the basement area, but we actually prefer the upstairs which is a bit more elegant. If you need the extra space though, the basement is very practical. We love the pizza here too, and the mini sliders are surprisingly good paired with the wine! Happy hour is a great way to save some dough while still enjoying all the best that they have to offer here. Excellent selection!
